History

Walker Brothers Co. Funeral Home Inc. has served Spencerport, Churchville and Western Monroe County and Eastern Genesee County with personal and dignified service for over 132 years. From the early years, in the 1870's with first generation founder David Walker; to the second generation, his two sons, Fred and John Walker who gave the business it's name; to the third generation of Lester Merz and his partner Albert Fosmire; on to the fourth generation of Albert's sons Ted and Joe Fosmire to 1984 when Joseph J. Peworchik purchased the firm and became the fifth generation. In 2003 Joe Peworchik was joined by Scott C. Whitney and together they have continued to understand, serve and meet the needs of our communities.

With two locations, 15 West Avenue in Spencerport and 21 South Main Street in Churchville, the funeral homes are situated to offer convenience to our entire area. We offer pre-need counseling in our office or in the comfort of your home as well as prefunded funeral accounts through PrePlan. We offer a full range of cremation options as well as traditional funeral services and we are equipped to serve all faiths with dignified reverence. The funeral home is a member of the Rochester Genesee Valley Funeral Directors Association, the New York State Funeral Directors Association as well as the National Funeral Directors Association.

ABOUT OURSELVES

Joe Peworchik has been a Licensed Funeral Director in New York State since 1968 and offers 39 years of experience. He is married and has three children and two grandchildren and is a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport. He received his funeral service education at Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY and served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971.

Scott C. Whitney is married and has two daughters. He is a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport and a member of Spencerport Kiwanis. He graduated from Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse, NY and has been a Licensed Funeral Director for 15 years. He has also served in the United States Army and Army Reserve from 1986-1993 and is an Eagle Scout.
